Light frost is normal and self-clears via defrost cycle. A solid ice block means the defrost control or sensor needs service.

If auxiliary heat strips carry the whole load, your bills spike. Usually a refrigerant, sensor, or balance-point setting problem.

Do heat pumps work in Texas winters?
Yes — Dallas winters are exactly what heat pumps are built for. Modern units heat efficiently well below freezing, and for rare hard freezes, auxiliary strips or a dual-fuel furnace cover the gap automatically.
Heat pump vs. AC plus gas furnace — which is cheaper?
Upfront costs depend on the equipment and installation; new 2026 installations do not qualify for the expired federal Section 25C credit. Operating cost depends on your gas and electric rates; in all-electric homes the heat pump wins outright. We'll run your actual numbers rather than hand-waving.
What tax credits are available?
The federal Section 25C credit ended for property placed in service after December 31, 2025. Eligible heat pumps installed by that date may qualify for a 2025 credit of 30% up to $2,000, subject to IRS requirements. New 2026 installations do not qualify. We check any current utility rebate eligibility when quoting your project.
How long do heat pumps last here?
12–15 years with annual maintenance. Because they run year-round, twice-yearly checkups matter even more than they do for a standard AC.
